I'm just looking for suggestions around contractual statements that anyone has found to address this situation:-
You've spent considerable time in discussion with a client to develop a proposal for a reasonable sized piece of work (£20K), they've squeezed you on price and turned you inside out with various re-iterations of the content / design. You finally get the OK. The first set of dates are booked with the rest to come later. You deliver the first set with great feedback and that's about £5k of the total piece of work. Now the slippage starts, no dates ever given just broadly it'll be December, now it will be Jan, now it will be April now it will be June and each time you are asked to re-jig the format / session design because something has changed at their end but no money is changing hands.
I have cancellation and postponement terms but as no delivery dates have been set, that doesn't cover this situation. Any suggestions for something I could add to my terms to at least provide some recompense - I have a monthly update and would easily evidence at least 2 days work in catch up discussions and re-engineering of the accepted proposal. The biggest challenge is that it's a long term client but I'm dealing with a different part of the business for this project. Any suggestions to address this for the future?
