Ice breaker suggestion needed

Hi everyone,

I'm about to start some staff focus groups to get some insight into their perception of our company culture. To get conversation flowing, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular ice breaker please?

The focus groups are a max of 2 hours long so I can only afford up to 20 mins on the ice breaker. There will be between 8 - 10 people in each focus group.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Gemma,

Given the numbers you have, the artefacts exercise might be one to consider. You need to give people a bit of notice, but you ask them to bring along an item (actual object or picture of it) or image that they feel best sums up or represents the culture, their role in it etc. You then give them a couple of minutes on the day to talk through what they have brought and why - leaving a little time at the end to look at any key or common themes.

If you feel there is a risk it may get a little negative, you can condition it to 'what they think represents the best aspect' or 'what they like best', just to keep it positive.

I've found people get really creative, and come up with some great ideas, and it does provide some useful 'hooks' to link back to.

Hope this helps

Graham
