I used the all change module to help with a cultural change course I was writing for the organisation. It worked so well and really highlighted to the participants the importance of sharing information and communicating effectively. It was a challenge for me, delivering the session, not to explain why I was asking the group to do so much but the effect it had following was worth the exercise. I recommend this module to really get people thinking about how to communicate change.

I used this with a group of participants currently undergoing many organisational changes. It was a really good activity to get them to consider changes they would like to make (personal or professional) and what is holding them back.
I paired up the delegates to discuss what they had written and for the partner to use coaching questions to look at helping them to break down barriers that they may have.
Very engaging, and it allowed open and honest conversations to be had as a result.

I used this exercise as part of a Finance Directorate away day for approx. 50 people. Fair to say it got a mixed response but it did bring some much needed light relief to what was a fairly heavy session. I had to amend the debrief questions quite a bit at the end but it was a useful energiser activity that refocuses on the importance of resilience. I am going to try it out again with a few smaller groups but this needs a bit of preparation around how you introduce and facilitate the end discussion if you are going to use it. Would recommend that you give it a try

I used this activity last week with a fairly new team to help them draw out their strengths and identify diversity within the team.
The activity went really well with the 3 teams each creating an in-depth 3-course menu capturing the teams behaviours, strengths and characteristics. One team really got into this activity adding in matching wines from around the globe and a muse-buse.
It was great to how similar the menu's were for example they all had spicy dishes as the team could challenge each other quite a bit and this came out through the menu's allowing us as a collective to really open up this topic not just as an ice-breaker but throughout the workshop.
The activity was fun and encourage lots of conversation and helped to open up some of the challenges that the team currently had with their communication styles.
Highly recommend as it was not only fun but value adding which was great.

This is one of my favourite change activities. Sharing the change curve and looking at feelings that are totally naturally experienced by all when going through change really helps participants who are going through change and manage change to understand themselves and others in addition to moving on to look at what can be done at each stage to move people and themselves through change.

This is a good ice-breaker exercise when looking at any aspect of change. It was felt though that there were far too many initial statements, which did cause the exercise to become tedious towards the end. In future sessions I would recommend that the statements be reduced to those that are more applicable to (your) current organisational change. The exercise would then work as a very good introduction to a short or full day course.

I recently used this exercise at a large team away day. It was easy to facilitate and manage the exercise and worked especially well after lunch as an energiser. It gave the participants an opportunity to have some light-hearted fun and after the exercise, they were able to review how they communicated with each other. We also discussed how they could have completed the exercise more quickly and effectively which gave some interesting points for consideration. It was a great, fun game that enabled the group who were previously working quite autonomously, to work together to achieve a shared goal. This translated very well into the work they do on a daily basis.

I used this as the starter activity for having Weekly Performance one-on-one meetings. I divided the group into two teams and they were assigned to write examples of when Weekly Performance meetings went well (Happy Ever After), how it looked and felt for everyone involved & when Weekly Performance meetings ended badly (Horror) how people felt, repercussions.
Then we could refer to these flip charts for the rest of the session analyzing why the horror stories may have happened & how to avoid that situation. Why & How things went well, consistency, not taking it personally etc.
Extremely effective opener that supported the whole session.

I have only used this once as it needs careful setting up. It unfortunately led one delegate to break down in tears as her horror story was truly horrifying. Fortunately I managed to handle this sensitively but did not expect the level of openness from a delegate on day one! Good learning experience for me, but it does need contextualising from a facilitators point of view.

I have been coaching a member of staff recently who is struggling to get to their goal. Part of this is that they struggle with thinking positively and can't see the big picture. Part of the coaching is trying to get her to look at the goal in a step-by-step process and celebrate the little wins along the way. This exercise has really helped her see that she has many wins throughout each day, no matter how small, and that in breaking down her goal into steps, she can celebrate the wins along the way. The handouts really helped.

Lovely simple but effective exercises - used it at the end of a session about leading with your strengths and increasing personal effectiveness. They added one of their "True strengths" to the star as well (i.e. Abby, Beyond Amazingly Analytical), and it provided a perfect closer on how amazing and unique they each are, and how, through awareness and effort, they can stretch beyond where they are now.

I used this exercise on a stress management course as en energiser after lunch. We used blue stars for them write their superlative and it was quite funny as some of them were standing on chairs to put their stars high... but don’t tell health & safety. We then used orange stars with the word “beyond” and it was true that they all managed to get them higher than the first. I asked them to say these words out loud and asked them how it made them feel and most said it felt good. We also then discussed how, with a little more effort, we can push ourselves beyond what we think is our limit and have a positive outcome. So, in summary, it worked a treat and I’d definitely use it again.

What a great motivational exercise. I used it at the end of a team building day for a training team. They are all tired at this time of year, it really picked them up and made them feel good about themselves. We have commented on it several times when chins go down and they get a bit fed up. It always spurs them on. Once they had stuck their first stars up on the wall, I made the whole team shout out the name on the star and the superlative. Each name got called out. We really made a lot of noise doing it, I made them stand up in the training room, and shout as loud as they possibly could, it took them a few goes to really get into it. We then added the beyond star, we all shouted out each name ie Karon - beyond fantastic. By this time, they were screaming it out and back slapping each other in excitement. A brilliant motivational way to end the day. I explained that when it gets tough, they have proved to us all that they can always find a little extra, if they put in more effort, they can find a lot extra. Thanks for the exercise, I have since used it to end 5 other team building days. They love it.

People never cease to amaze me and the 'Reach for the stars' exercise gets them every time, It's a real self esteem booster. Once you explain what they've achieved, the looks of sheer confusion turning to joy is enough to keep you going. Keep up the good work making my life easier!

I used this for an L&D conference that I ran in March this year. We had 40 people attending, split over 5 different tables. We had ensured they were mixed up, but we wanted to encourage the flow of conversation…not that this can be difficult with a room full of trainers! We put two envelopes on each table, containing a copy of the pictures. We asked them to split into two teams on each team. We then asked them to grab an envelope and challenged them as to who would be the first team to submit a complete set of correct answers to the presenter at the front. This resulted in everyone scrambling to their feet, diving for their envelope and then all huddled around debating and shouting answers. We went from quiet to chaos in 5 seconds (organised chaos that it is!) From my perspective this was very simple and easy to run, and the only setting up needed was having 10 envelopes with the pictures inside, and one slide with the instructions on. It was over within 5 minutes, so we could then get on with our day. I was also able to use the ‘learning point’ of trainers being able to stand back to analyse problems. It worked so well, that I have got my boss running the same session tomorrow, for a conference he is attending for 50 people in one of our business units. Their learning point will be that in our normal working environment we can be too close to a problem or situation to look at it objectively. Tomorrow will be their opportunity to take a step back, look at the wider picture and, by doing so, identify what actions may need to be taken.

I have used this exercise a number of times. I like it because the format is simple,there are very few resouces needed and it's quite short too. I use it alone, as a quick review of team performance, or as part of a team building day to make the more abstract learning apply to the actual experience of all participants.
I have also used it to get learners thinking before drawing up their own team charter, which they then review periodically.
